Weather dry Wednesday otherwise "soft" rest of time, looked for "Collide" at Ballycastle but no ferries running, so did The Dark Hedges and Ballintoy, both used in "Game of Thrones"
Took Portrush 95 yr old to meet up with 94 yr old in Larne, lovely chat for 4 hours about the past.
Plenty of roadworks, a lot seasonal places closed.
Lovely relaxing time.

Just back from a SWMBO birthday break in New Quay, stopping at the Wellington Inn, superb location, wonderful rooms, food and staff, Richard the complete host.
Didn't see the Dolphins, although other guests did, watched Life-Boat exercises. Never seen so many Kite's before.
Visited Llaethliw organic vineyard, couldn't sample but Jack very helpful, bought several bottles of their first vintage 2014, White's, Rose's and Red's, not yet got round to opening, quite expensive but they can sell everything they produce!

GLASTONBURY ---no not that one, the "hotel", Royal Parade, Eastbourne.
Certainly a "budget" hotel, rooms small comfortable and clean, lots of repairs needed, staff very polite and efficient, food basic set menu, could not find fire escape, took photos and checked Google, hot water for washing intermittent, no disabled access, sink and shower water from above spewing from broken pipe onto flat roof, front access steps marble tiles broken, jagged edges, strong hand rails - needed, entertainment mediocre, bar prices not too bad.
Weather good so able to get out and about, Bexhill & Hastings, then Beachy Head & Brighton(what a dump?),from 17 yrs ago.  The Lanes, Pavilion and Wetherspoons Post & Telegraph enjoyed, previous holidays at Eastbourne better hotels.

we all got wet !!
RTA (biker too fast round an island in slippery conditions, lost it ) , traffic delay for 35 mins.

Friday 28th. July,a great day's bowling at Rhyl, the East Promenade Bowling Club, wonderful hosts, the Greenline Coach & Driver superb. The evening meal at the Bandon Arms @ Bridgnorth, should be prefixed with an "A"-- it was a disaster.
"Abandon" all hope of getting served here, in less than ONE hour, having previously BOOKED 32 meals meals from menu, 6 weeks ago, phoned when 2 hours away to advise time of arrival -- having used previously 5 times -- Never Again.
Our organiser advised the "Manager" after an hour's waiting, if meals not on table in 5 minutes -- we''re going,-- 5 minutes they started to appear over 20 minutes.......On Trip Advisor.

Had a wonderful 4 hours at The Anderton Boat Lift, the caissons carrying the Edwin Clark glass tour boat and narrow boats, a brilliant example to Victorian engineering.
The recent investment by Heritage Lottery Funding and River & Canal Trust, in conjunction with British Waterways the Anderton Volunteers bringing to life this superb structure. The trip along the Weaver to Northwich seeing the wildlife and the history of the links connecting the Trent & Mersey
industries. My wife, not very "mechanical" thoroughly enjoyed the experience, can recommend it.

Spent 3 hours in Gt.Yarmouth, what a 5h1t hole, left bus terminus walked Regent Road to River Yarm, door ways still got sleeping gear, full of dossers, tossers, pimps prostitutes, and charity shops -  you could smell the cannabis.
SWMBO sick when we got back to base, from prawn meal she had in restaurant there by the pier, my Lasagne meal quite nice. Gluten Free menu interesting, some not available
best part of Gt Yarmouth, -- the road out of town.

Tutored Whisky Tasting

Thought with the snow and ice it may have been cancelled. The Balvenie Ambassador Miss Whisky, Alwynne Gwilt conducted the tastings, held in the cellars of Nickolls & Perks, what a superb night, about 30 guests.
She rightly deserves the titles Ambassador and Miss Whisky, as her in depth knowledge not only of the Balvenie Distillery but the process without notes was inspirational.
We had samples and the history, of 6 whiskies........
1. 14 yr Carribean Cask 43% American oak aged, with Rum
2. 21 yr Balvenie  Cask 46% American oak & Sherry matured
3. 25 yr 1990-2015 Cask# 7046 47.8% American oak
4. 14 yr Peat Week (smoked) 48.3%
5. 30 yr American oak mellow superb 47%
6. 1988 Single Cask 51.5% American oak "punchy".
Cheese and more glasses followed proceedings,
In conversation talked to her about our legal do it at home "still" efforts and flavourings available, she had heard of it, but not sampled, she "has that pleasure to look forward to".
Did buy a couple of bottles, swmbo doesn't know --- yet,
no doubt may pick up on bank statement!
Would have needed a mortage to consider some of the others.....Looking forward to the next tasting !!

I though it was still illegal to distill spirits without a license.

Not sure that you have the right thread old dear but having read the relevant amended regulations it seems to be alright for home consumption although the separation of alcohol by any means or condensing of vapour is strictly speaking not legal. Huh
I am of the opinion that HMRC are more interested in counterfeiters than a bloke knocking up his own drink and if he poisons himself it's his/her lookout. Cheesy
