If they hadnt canceled the last bus, i'd be there VB, unfortunately the 'taxi service' isnt available again this year as I've convinced her that I need some 'me time' again to save me the agro of trying to find her a pressie.

I will look in in the New Year if you allow beer makers and randy Terriers in (with good intentions to start country wine making). Grin

Bit of an old thread this one but does anyone know if the New Forest group is still going?  I can find nothing via google.  Lyndhurst is just down the road from me so would be a group I could actually get to!

My first post on this forum.   I live in Lordshill, Southampton and am about to start wine making again, something I used to do long time ago in UK and in Zimbabwe.     I have ideas of starting up a circle of others who are interested, but in the meantime I have bought C.J.Berry's book 'First Steps in Wine Making' to remind me of what it is all about, and will be following this forum with interest to get ideas.
Kind regards,
kopje

Hello Kopje - I'm in Hedge End and I've been making wine and using this forum for about a year now. It would be interesting to find out if there is some kind of group which meets locally. A mate reckons he is acquainted with a lady in Eastleigh, who is the Chairwoman of some local home brew organisation. Unfortunately she is in France for a while so I won't have anyone info until she gets back. I'll post back here if I get any more info.

Hampshire Winemakers...

I went along to the Winchester Winemakers Circle meeting last night. As pleasant as it was, it was not what I expected.

There were approximately 15 in attendance, most of which no longer make their own wine. Most members were way past retirement age, and although one of them, a charming old fellow who has many hobbies, including winemaking, growing his own fruit and veg and beekeeping!, most have given up. The meeting last night was more of a "here's my favourite commercial wine; here's a little story about it; here - have a taste " kind of format.

Having said that, 2 competitions were judged last night ( January's meeting was snowed off!) and I was allowed to talk to the judge who explained the process of judging.

I was made to feel very welcome ( fresh meat probably) and I have had some kind offers from members who are looking for a home for their now defunct equipment ( all donations gratefully received!!)

I was a wee bit bored for the first half, but I enjoyed the 2nd half, so on reflection, I reckon I'll put in another appearance next month.

whistler,

Have a look at the NAWB site under Federations and Clubs to see if any in proximity.
