hello mate it may be a bit of a treck for you? but im a member of colchester wine club,i live in sudbury suffolk and there is nothing going on round my way! i travel there and have some great nights including homemade wine whists, commercial wine nights, charity nights, themed wine night with food,we all take our wine, and taste and compare with each other, its been a godsent to me to get so much help and advice from our more seasoned members shall i say without being rude! we meet on the first thursday of the month at 8 o clock, its nice when im on holiday like this week or i get a rest day the day after wine club so i can get a lift and have free evening and have good drink and laugh with my new found friends!(a nice plug for you robert(club chairman)if you get on here?) i can put you in touch with chairman if you are interested?

a wine whist is when members bring in1 or 2 wines, they are all decanted into serving jugs, they are all number'd and put on a row of tables, usually about 20 wines or so,not all our members are winemakers, nobody except the person decantering knows who's is who's, seats are placed around the tables and the wines are put in groups of 3 or 4,you then pick a partner and have a marking paper between you, then you sit down with another pair sitting next to you tasting the wines on that section of table and marking them out of 10 ,you then all move clockwise or anti clockwise round the groups of wines on table then when all tasting is complete the totals are added up and a prize is given to the outright winner! sorry that was so long winded, its a good laugh and whatever wine is left over is up for grabs if any good!
