Hi all.
I have had a couple of PMs and a text re info about all grain brewing, I will try to put as much info here as I can.
To start I have bumped my topic "getting nearer to AG" ( is it possible to lock this FA?). I have also tried to find Moley's thread, which is most informative, but with no luck so far.
Equipment either can be bought, and/or made, in fact a boiler is quite easy. I have 3, 2 converted to digital and one for emergency which is the knob setting type.
Most of my other equipment I either already had or I made myself.
At the moment I am working on the AG brewers main problem which is keeping the mash at the correct temperature for 1½ hrs. I have used the old cool box method now for years but the brew house efficiency is not how it should be because the temperature falls a lot no matter how much I insulate the box.
Heater elements can be used with a digital controller but grains will burn on them resulting in off flavours, and yes I have tried grain bags but these are very difficult to handle.
I came up with a possible solution based on a hot water heat source using a HLT and gravity to feed water into a boiler type mash tun and a 12 v pump to circulate the water. This however is still in the "what if " stage, although I have bought the pump. More on this later in the year.

The other main question is how much does a bottle of AG cost to make.
I have just had a delivery of grains and hops they cost £48 including delivery, please bear in mind that not all the grains etc will be used in this batch.
I will get a
minimum of 6 brews from this batch which works out to £8 per brew, I will get a
minimum of 40 x 500 mil bottles per brew which comes out at 20p per bottle, add on water and electric and yeast and it comes out at about 25p for beer that is far superior to any pub beer.

ps I have not included any start up costs in the above.
