Lidl Red Wine Juice is fermenting as I type....
Aug 3rd, 2017 at 9:13pm

Bit of a cheat here but I like to ferment shop bought products as all it amuses me because I can...
At the moment  I'm fermenting 5L of Lidl Red grape juice with Gervin red wine yeast 5g and 1.375 kg of brewing sugar.
Its bubbling nicely and smells okay so i'll post again when I have more results

Snubbers, Good luck with your potentially 17%abv rocket fuel, the usual amount for 5 litres is 8-900g sugar and 2 litres fruit juice, may I suggest adding another 4-5 litres grape juice, this will bring the abv down to a more sensible level. Wink

Hows that one going now?

Ive experimented with juice based wines in the past. I usually go with 2 litres of juice and 2.5 to 3 litres of water and sugar, other additives. I wondered if I should increase the ratio of juice to water in an attempt to get stronger flavours to my wines. Is that a good idea or not? Could I go to 100% juice with no water?

Update - Sorry, I've just realised that this post was originally over a year ago  Embarrassed

Chris, no problem with 100% juice, just watch the sugar/SG. Wink

I know all about getting SG/Sugar wrong. While preparing a 2nd wash of my Hedgerow pulp on Friday, a friend and I did a very good Laurel & Hardy impression. We struggled with the maths to work out the sugar content of some juice, then we added the sugar and couldn't work out why the SG was so low. We'd forgotten to add 1 kg of sugar. In our defence, we were both very tired. Embarrassed
