Wine from Runner Beans
Nov 11th, 2017 at 7:04pm

People - I saw somewhere on this forum a mention of Runner Bean wine . Does anybody have a recipe please ? .
I made Frozen Pea which was quite successful and I assume it would be similar but some guidance would be appreciated .

Since posting that message I have noticed that CJJ Berry has a recipe for Broad Bean on page 108 of my copy , that's now on my " to do " list along with OBeary's Pink Plonk and Richards Red . I really must get back to it .

Hi Steve. I use a very scientific recipe! One 5p carrier bag full of runner beans, boil in three litres of water for around 10-15 minutes. Allow to cool and strain out the pods. Dissolve 1 kilo of sugar in the liquor and pour into DJ. Top to the shoulder with cold water and add your yeast. Treat as any normal juice wine from this point on.

I have 16lbs of sliced runners in a freezer at work, should make 5 gallons if I add 5lbs minced sultanas and 5kg sugar + usual additions. Wink
