Why the Rum?

In my quest for inexpensive (relatively) ingredients I stumbled across this. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

I know it's for Horses but it seems to be pure Molasses so my question is, why not?

All the information I can find clearly states pure Molasses and there's no mention of any adulterants, can anyone see a flaw in my plan to use this to make a Navy style Rum?

Had a quick look, is it really cheap at 40% sugar per litre at around 6.00 per litre?

It's cheap for Molasses. Not looking to make the cheapest spirit, I can do that when the allotment is providing me with spare fruit and veg, but the best I can afford. Rum is made from Molasses so I've been looking for the best value I can get. (Of course you could just say Rum is made from Sugar Cane so your Supermarket cane sugar will do but where's the adventure in that?) Grin
Also, the 4 litre option is just under a tenner so way better value!

This horse Molasses is used quite a lot to make Rum as its much cheaper.

There are different types and I read on another group that one is ok to use and the other isn't because of what's included in the ingredients.

Will try and find out and report back.
