Have I killed my yeast?
Sep 14th, 2019 at 10:29am

Morning everyone. I just racked my wine from the bucket into the demijohn, and left the demijohn in our glass porch. Initial vigorous fermentation- but it got very hot in the porch during the day! Fermentation stopped- have I killed the yeast? Is there a remedy?

If the temperature got too hot for the yeast, then the yeast will die. A simple remedy, make sure the liquid is the correct temperature and add a new fresh yeast.

Phew! Thanks, Iím happy not to have to pour the lot down the sink. Three demijohns of blackberry. I remember every thorn, every nettle sting!

To be honest it would have to have got very hot to kill the yeast.

If you haven't got a hydrometer allredy then get one so you can monitor what is going on.
